MJ

Sunday, May 27th, 2007

MJ, a name so familar, was being echoed in the movie SpiderMa n3. The name MJ might have refered to the spiderman’s girl but it provoked the emergence of the image of another man in my mind, MJ means more than that certainly, as it means Michael Jordan.

Jordan led the NBA in scoring in 10 seasons (NBA record) and tied Wilt Chamberlain’s record of seven consecutive scoring titles. He was also a fixture on the NBA All-Defensive Team, making the roster nine times. Jordan also holds the top career and playoff scoring averages of 30.1 and 33.4 points per game, respectively. By 1998, the season of his Finals-winning shot against the Jazz, he was well known throughout the league as a clutch performer. In the regular season, Jordan was the Bulls’ primary threat in the final seconds of a close game and in the playoffs, Jordan would always demand the ball at crunch time. Jordan’s total of 5,987 points in the playoffs is the highest in NBA history. He retired with 32,292 points, placing him third on the NBA’s all-time scoring list behind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Karl Malone[ this achievement was only attained(attainable) after the 3rd retirement of MJ ].

With five regular-season MVPs, six Finals MVPs, and three All-Star MVPs, Jordan is the most decorated player ever to play in the NBA. Jordan finished among the top three in regular-season MVP voting a record 10 times, and was named one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History in 1996.

Jordan’s athletic leaping ability, highlighted in his back-to-back slam dunk contest championships in 1987 and 1988, is credited by many with having influenced a generation of young players. Several current NBA All-Stars have stated that they considered Jordan their role model while growing up, including LeBron James, and Dwyane Wade. In addition, commentators have dubbed a number of next-generation players "the next Michael Jordan" upon their entry to the NBA, including Grant Hill, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Vince Carter, and Dwyane Wade. Although Jordan was a well-rounded player, his "Air Jordan" image is also often credited with inadvertently decreasing the jump shooting skills, defense, and fundamentals of young players. A fact which Jordan himself has lamented in the past, "I think it was the exposure of Michael Jordan; the marketing of Michael Jordan. Everything was marketed towards the things that people wanted to see, which was scoring and dunking. That Michael Jordan still played defense and an all-around game, but it was never really publicized." Although Jordan has done much to increase the status of the game, some of his impact on the game’s popularity in America appears to be fleeting. Television ratings in particular increased only during his time in the league and have subsequently lowered each time he left the game.

With the recognition that 2002-03 would be Jordan’s final season, tributes were paid to him in nearly every arena in the NBA. In his final game at his old home court, the United Center in Chicago, Jordan received a prolonged standing ovation. The Miami Heat retired the #23 jersey on April 11, 2003, even though he never played for the team. At the 2003 All-Star Game, Vince Carter(nicknamed vinsanity) gave up his starting spot as small forward to Jordan, and the halftime ceremony was dedicated to Jordan’s career. Jordan’s final NBA game was on April 16, 2003 in Philadelphia. Having sat out for much of the fourth quarter, Jordan re-entered the game in the final minutes, after the Philadelphia crowd started chanting "We want Mike!" with 1:44 remaining. Jordan sank his last two free throws, and then exited to a standing ovation.

No one will ever get a bigger retirement applause, humble as he is, he deserved every clap that audience gave him, now all we have is his youtube videos and the memories.. he will live on as the greatest, and no matter who comes in the league, kobe, lebron, vince, AI, t-mac, wade, MJ is, and always will be, the greatest to ever play the game.
I’m having Jordan_by_lipofsky_16577the wildest dream in the world rightnow, tat is, i would love to read the head-line on the newspaper one day with

Friday, yet another Friday, but this time, a little bit of fun and mixed fortunes were seen in this friday.

Woke up routinely before 6am, found my hands rubbing my eyes but the reluctance to leave the bed was not seen this time, apparently, I knew that this is one ‘special day’, a day charged with missions, a day installed with surprises(if luck blooms), or disappointments. I was so enthusiastic to believe that I am actually holding the tools that would otherwise determine how today would become, so I had to put my efforts to put things right, should I want to have it that way. Self-Belief, Determination, Desire, well, I guess I have it all packed in me already for today =)

So there goes… stations to stations… all were eventful stations… without failing, laughter followed, I guess this is the only thing that cherished up the day, so that’s why, thanks for the company u have given…

From breakfast with Ms Wong, to the trespassing of MAS IT department to pilot academy, to the police road block, then the moment we walked suspiciously inside the ‘Diamond Shaped’ building, and yet again, the ‘i-am-the-driver’ moments, I call that, ‘light and easy, and hungry’ =)

The second half of the day was even more unexpected man, the suspicious phone talk on bra (u denied it =p ), the wandering in the city for the Chrysanthemum, then with some blessing in disguise, bumped into CELCOM, surrounded by image of LEE HOM and JJ LIN, was the ‘good time of the day’. Oh my, then, the eventual wrong visit to DBKL was some ‘brand new experience’, and the ice-cream, I guess I am gonna remember how peanut butter jam tastes like for the rest of the day, courtesy to the ice-cream.

The U-turn before entering the tol was the ‘life-saving’ moment of the day, highlight of the day! The bravery to took the turn saved us time, money, the raindrops were blessing us! =)

em, the ‘accidenta’ msg, haha… god knows how on earth tat was sent out… hehe

This day is, indeed, a Friday tat no other Friday can compete for the ‘red-letter day award’….

SunWay Lagoon…

Sunday, May 20th, 2007

Today is just another ordinary sunday, this may be true for everyone out there, but it is absolutely not true for me, for this is one extraordinary Sunday, i am going to Sunway Lagoon with Khai Wan, Heng Feng, Bee Yee, Boon Keong, Jie Yun and lastly, Kian Bin!!!(the names are put according to the order of me picking up you guys hehe)

Just when i was wondering if i was late, i found myself waiting at the gate of my fren’s house and struggling to get her via phone calls. Moments later i decided to give the door a few soft knocking, look, it just didnt yield any positive results. Thank god that after another 10 min i finally saw my fren moving out from her house slowly bearing a pale-white face, but she said she was alright, oh really?? ya, just overslept i guess, no big deal( i guess this is telling something), hmm =p

Well, no extraordinary things have taken place along the way to SunDscn1143way, but we had to stop at Carrefour as the last person wasnt arrived at the KTM yet, well, this gave us a chance to walk into Carrefour, and we siezed this chance to get our so called breakfast, me, as usual,TaDscn1141 mago =)  And everyone got their food, some even got a whole ‘Tandoori chicken’ man, heavy breakfast… Then the highlight of the day came, we stood at the main entrance of Carrefour and had our self-declared picnic there, eating the food we bought with great pace, while waiting for my fren. Well, i noticed cars passed by stopped to observe this bunch of youngsters(yes youngsters), and the guard also kept patrolling there to make sure we didnt throw the remaining of our food to the floor…

After all the hustles, there we are, at Sunway Pyramid car park=)

Wow, really not an ordinary trip, locating the entrance to Sunway Lagoon itself already proved an up-hill task for ‘us’, but of course we would found it in the end nevertheless, and yeah we found it with a little bit of instinctive senses blended with some sense of direction…Dscn1139

Talks of paying only RM20 each person while the rest of the bill on my shoulder kept echoing even untill we were standing in front of the ticketing counter, wei, RM 45 for water park and amusement park, i said RM20 for water park, correct what, no meh? =p

Scanned through the entrance, and we wasted no time in hurrying over to the wagon wheel that had been inviting us even before we entered the theme park! On the wagon wheel, there we seen the second highlight of the day! I was convinced that the staff at Sunway Lagoon put the safety of their customers above all, as one staff told my fren this, ‘ ah moi, sit down ah moi’, because my fren was so excited tat she couldnt sit quietly but walking around in the small wagon wheel, haha… Someone told me she is an acrophobiac, but she also picked up the gut and join us, what a bravor! i am sure you have conquered the fear for height right now, see, nothing can stop us when we are determine to overcome the fear in us, rite?=)

Second stop, The Lost City Of Gold, again, gotta be persuasive if we want everyone to expirience this exciting ride, but of course we came in a group of 7, we played and enjoyed in a group of 7 as well ^_^ Fu-Yoh! The ride was great, just a little bit too fast as the distance covered was really too short…oh, got one funny little scene there, but i think i had better not mention it again otherwise she would have caught all the limelight here.. hehe

Next, what would it be? walking under the hot sun, the water contents inside my body were eveporating, was feeling exhaus ted, legs started to protest to the intense walking distance, and yet, the happiness that been tailing us kept me energized as we reached the ‘cobble shoes’, big boot that moves in a circular motion…Some were refusing to take this ride as it looked somehow set up ‘just for children’, but nevertheless, i was determined to put my weight on the ride as i ignored the protest and moved toward the entrance…

‘Then, where do wDscn1164e go from here?’

nothing special worth mentioning from here until we found ourselves wondering the whereabout of a handphone, followed by some running, climbing, and of course, panting, the operation of rescueing the phone apparently failed. A dark cloud was casted upon the fellowship…

Young generations are often people with great ambitions, enDscn1174thusiasm, and thats why we went to the ‘long long bridge’ in the air, wanted Dscn1172to conquer acrophobia, and declared ourselves free from gravity =)

AftDscn1175er a long descending from the staircase from the watch tower, finally, we have reached the ’seaside’, sandy beaches, crystal clear water, exciting atmosphere with ‘huge tidal waves’, after a short mom ent,we were already bathing in the warm water!

Bored with the water, we want to seek more excitement, hence we walked to the splashing site, and started to indulge with screaming along the way while we moving down from top with high speed, anyway, the first tunnel was the most surprising with the ‘out of light’ feature, i tot i was inside the mine of Moria..lol…

we never seem to get bored with this thing though, but apparently we had gotta move on and it was fun standing there waiting for the gigantic ‘cup’ to swing and pour down the water contained in it… the feeling was simply, Fu-Yoh!!! the positive psychological effect drawn on me by this mechanical cup made me surrender to the kid who was aiming the water gun at us, and we found ourselves exposed to become his victim as we waited with antipation for the water to splash down from the cup…

Pressing the ‘rewind’ button on my memory, there i saw us feeling the temperature the water as we again gone from earth to water, and this time we lingered really long time inside the water, until we finally decided to moved on as the clock was ticking late already, yet, our heart still very much attached to ‘water’, so we stood there for quite a long time under the ‘mushroom’, later forming a circle with hands holding hands, pulling and pushing trying ourbest to expand and shrink this circle, only ended up with 3 person fell to the ground, well sorry, tat was really not my contribution for i was one of the victim who fell to the ground, so, dont’ be grumpy =)

So far, after the ‘brunch’ outside carrefour, we merely had anything edible except some sweet s, thats why most of us were screaming ‘ i am hungry!’

Sushi King became the eventual lucky winner as Raku Zen is packed, after the dinner, the dull job returned to me as we had to go all the way back to Bangi and seal today’s story into our memory bank…

Today, certainly has been a great day, but remember, ‘tomorrow is another day’ =)

San Siro ’s White Magic

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007

I have just witnessed a catastrophic ChampionsLeague Semi Finale match between Manchester United and AC Milan. That was a match to remember for the italian giants as they performed one of their classical play to hunt down the likely-winner of this year competition, The Red Devil.

The Rooseneri has been master-class and their players have been great from the first second till the final whistle was blown by the referee. On the other hand, The red devils have lost their devilist ability to torment opposition defenses, and also could not find a way to regain their instinct in protective their goal-mouth, which eventually awarded  3 superb goals to their counterpart.

San Siro certainly has the ability to cast spell on the visitors and this match is another strong proof to this claim. The San Siro magic has dispelt the confidence and self-beliefs of the red devils, whilst it also effectively casted another form of magic onto the host, transforming the host into a fighting team that always show the hunger for more success.

We saw the ginger head of united, Paul Scholes, and his long-term comrade Ryan Giggs walking away from the pitch in a mood of aweful disappointment as this could probably be their last UEFA dream. The Wales international winger was the only united player who was able to unleash a shot to test his opposition brazilian keeper Dida during the dreadful first half of the match, and yet could only see his effort stopped by the shot-stopper without much difficulties. While we were made to believe that Michael Carrick has finally lived up to expectations and levelled himself with the amount of cash united paid to his former club, however, Carrick was performing one of his worse match for united to night. Unable to spark his passing magic, and also could not find a way to hold on to the pressure imposed on him by Pirlo and was absolutely no match for the ferocious Gattuso thourghout this match. Carrick was always second best in this match.

While watching this match i cant stopped wondering why did the united player looked so weak and even 2 step slower than any of the Milan player, they would always fail to win the possession in a 50-50 situation, and they would not be able to pass their ball with appropriate power, let alone accuracy. They were soft, they were not even themselves, i am sure they would wonder how on earth they managed to slam 7 goals past AS Roma few weeks ago, and hit by disbelief that they actually registered the scoreline past AS Roma.

In the pre-match talk, we would always see headlines with the name of Cristiano Ronaldo drawn to Kaka’, and the duo were being compared as to who is the best footballer in the world this moment. If one of the two has to be named as the best, apperently Kaka’ would beat the Portuguese to the honour. Ronaldo was just another united player who were struggling with the ball and found himself losing possesions, passing the ball to his oppositions, lost his pace and always found the ball beyond his reach throughout this match. Well, the actuality is the whole team from Old Trafford were in terrible conditions tonight.

The magic of San Siro must have dispelt the fighting spirit in the red devils as they did not play to convince the audiences that they had the burning desire to win the match and book a date with their arch-rival Liverpool at Athens. It is obvious for anyone of us who have watched this match that the anchorman of Milan, Gattuso would have taken this Manchester United down on his own, tireless run and countless interceptions combined with his strong will to win the ball with every tackle he plunged into, the villiant Gattuso was always likely to win the ball back for the host and was a kind of force that destablelized the manchester united team.

Now that the match is over, Manchester United UEFA dream is effectively ended in Italy. 3 goals down, and they thought everything was over, and hence slowing down and never again seemed willing to fight for a draw, while we seen Liverpool stormed back to lift the trophy 2 years ago after being 3-0 down to the same team, the only difference is that The Reds had shown fighting spirit and desire to win, but United, apparently lacked this tonight, and hence found themselves going back to Manchester knowing they must bounce back from this defeat as soon as possible if they were to beat Chelsea to the top of Premier League and win the FA cup.

~ it is always excitig to watch manchester united playing their football this season, but not tonight. Liverpool, i plead you to avenge for the devils… ~

ps. hopefully the pitch at athens will be a lot more better than the San Siro’s pitch. perhaps this is one of the san siro’s trick as well =)
